DuPage seeks public input for long-range transit plan

If you drive a car, pedal a bike or take public transit in DuPage, county officials want to know how to improve your ride over the next quarter century.

The county is working to create its first long-range transportation plan. The document, known as DuPage Connects, will govern transportation policies and practices at the county for the next 25 years.

"We're going to look at our transportation system and see what our infrastructure needs are," said Don Puchalski, chairman of the county board's transportation committee.

Puchalski said the document will deal with maintaining and improving roads, public transit and bicycle trails.

In addition to creating a vision and mission for DuPage's division of transportation, officials said, the goal is to "help ensure a sustainable and vibrant quality of life for residents and businesses."

Before drafting the plan, officials are seeking comment from the public through a series of community meetings. Residents are being asked to provide input on how DuPage can improve traffic flow, safety, system reliability and transit services.

The first meeting will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at PowerForward DuPage, 28600 Belle Vista Parkway in Warrenville.

Future meetings are scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 15, at Community Recreation Center, 120 E. Oak St. in Addison; 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 20, at the Carol Stream Park District, 910 Gary Ave.; and 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 22, at Lincoln Center, 935 Maple Ave. in Downers Grove.

All four meetings will be identical in content and conducted in an open house format. Residents are welcome to attend anytime during the two-hour sessions.

There will be exhibits, and county representatives will be available to answer questions.

Comment cards will be distributed and attendees will be encouraged to participate in an online survey. Those who can't attend can complete the survey at dupageconnects.org.
