3 hurt, 1 arrested after Palatine crash

Three people were injured and a Lake in the Hills woman arrested on a drunken driving charge after a three-car crash Saturday night in Palatine, police said.

Elizabeth McKenna, 51, of the 5000 block of Princeton Lane, is facing charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident stemming from the crash, which occurred just after 10 p.m. Saturday at Palatine and Roselle roads.

According to Palatine police, two vehicles stopped for a red light on westbound Palatine Road were struck from behind by Chevrolet Equinox driven by McKenna.

The two occupants of the first vehicle hit had to be cut from the wreckage by the Palatine Fire Department, then taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, police said. An update of their condition was not given Monday.

McKenna was taken to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, where she was treated and released. She later was taken into custody and released after booking, police said.

She is scheduled to appear in Cook County court Feb. 22
