Officials working to identify Addison fire victims

Authorities are working to positively identify two elderly residents who were killed Monday morning during a house fire in Addison.

DuPage County Coroner Richard Jorgensen said Tuesday the male victim has been identified, but the female victim has not.

He said their names won't be released until the identity of the female victim is known and family members are notified.

Firefighters from the Addison Fire Protection District responded to the blaze around 2:20 a.m. Monday on the 700 block of South Ellsworth. When they arrived, they found flames shooting from the single-story structure.

Fire officials said there were no working smoke detectors in the house.

The fire caused the roof to collapse, initially preventing firefighters from entering parts of the home. Rescue teams found the victims in a bedroom.
