Hanover Park man faces 30 years in prison for armed robbery

A 39-year-old Hanover Park man faces up to 30 years in prison after a McHenry County jury convicted him of robbing a woman of her cellphone in June 2017 and beating two men in Woodstock.

Jurors on Monday convicted Brian Odell, of the 4700 block of Zeppelin Drive, of felony armed robbery, armed violence, unlawful restraint and mob action stemming from an attack June 28.

Prosecutors and police said Odell and another person held a woman at gunpoint in the early morning hours at a residence on the 200 block of Throop Street. They stole the woman's iPhone, and also ordered two men to the ground at gunpoint, stole one of the men's wallets, and brutally beat both.

Police said the victims knew their attackers. Woodstock Police Chief John Lieb said Tuesday the department has concluded its investigation and is not seeking any more suspects.

A four-day trial was held before Judge Sharon Prather, who will sentence Odell March 30.

Under state law, Odell must serve 85 percent of any sentence instead of the customary 50 percent for many crimes.

Odell had been held on $200,000 bail at the McHenry County jail since his arrest in late June. Bail was revoked upon conviction.
