Waukegan man dies after being shot early Sunday
One man died of gunshot wounds and a second was injured in a shooting early Sunday morning that Waukegan police are investigating.
"We're not ready to draw an assumption or a motive at this point," commander Joe Florip said Monday night. "We're at the infancy stage of this case."
Florip said the case began at 3:45 a.m. Jan. 21, when a sedan driven by Devante Flowers, 25, of Park City, ran off the road in the 300 block of Franklin Street and stopped in a home's front yard. When officers arrived, they found Flowers, who had been shot, behind the wheel. An ambulance took him to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
A lead in the case arrived at 4 a.m. the same morning, Florip said, when a second gunshot victim - who had been an occupant of Flowers' car - walked into a nearby hospital. In a news release, Florip described the second victim as a Waukegan man in his 20s, who suffered "serious injuries but is expected to survive."
No one has been charged with any crimes connected to these shootings, Florip said; he was not certain of the second victim's medical status Monday night.
The Waukegan police ask anyone with information about these shootings to call them at (847) 360-9001.
