Round Lake Beach foundation treasurer turns herself in to cops

The Round Lake Beach Cultural and Civic Center Foundation treasurer accused of stealing more than $10,000 from the nonprofit organization has turned herself in to authorities, officials said Friday.

Debra Knill, 46, of Round Lake Beach was to be released from Lake County jail on a $25,000 signature bond, officials said. She is due back in court Feb 1.

Knill was indicted by a Lake County grand jury on three counts of theft of more than $10,000 after civic center foundation officials discovered money was missing.

If found guilty on any of the charges, Knill could be sentenced up to seven years in prison, authorities said, though probation is an option. The foundation is an independent entity from the village, and Knill is not a village official, authorities said.
