Family dog dies in Ingleside house fire

A home in Ingleside was badly damaged and a family dog died during a fire early Monday morning, officials say.

Fox Lake Fire Department firefighters were called to a house fire in the 33800 block of Christa Drive at 4:08 a.m. The blaze had started in the garage and spread into the home, Battalion Chief Brent Connelly said.

Sixteen fire departments responded to the fire, bringing water in with tankers because there are no hydrants in the area, Connelly said. Firefighters who entered the home to battle the blaze were called back outside when flames burned through the roof, which was in danger of collapsing. Meanwhile, firefighters continued working to attack the fire from the outside.

Firefighters attempted to resuscitate the dog, but they were unsuccessful. No other injuries were reported. The residents of the home were on vacation, and a house sitter reported the fire.

The fire was completely extinguished and firefighters returned to their stations shortly before 10 a.m.

The cause and total damage amount remain under investigation.
