No injuries, but 3 families homeless after Naperville fire

No injuries were reported Thursday morning in an apartment fire on the 1500 block of Fairway Drive in Naperville, but three families were forced from their homes.

Firefighters responded at 8:39 a.m. to reports of smoke in the three-story building and arrived within six minutes.

When crews entered a third-floor apartment they found light smoke coming from the balcony and smoldering fire on the floor. Crews quickly extinguished the fire and conducted salvage and overhaul operations in second- and third-floor units.

Three apartments were deemed uninhabitable and the Red Cross has been called to assist those families.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
