Barrington High band to march in London New Year's parade

About 90 members of the Barrington High School band will ring in the new year overseas when they perform in the 2018 London New Year's Day Parade.

The band is making a rare encore performance in London, having performed in the parade in 2014 as well. They will be just one of 16 bands from the United States taking part.

City Councillor and former Lord Mayor of Westminster Robert Davis traveled to Barrington more than a year ago to meet with Band Director Randy Karon, District 220 Director of Fine, Visual & Performing Arts Brigid Tileston and Principal Steve McWilliams, to personally invite the band to return for the 2018 parade.

In addition to the parade, concert and symphonic band members will perform at a gala in St. John's Hall on Jan. 2.

"It is an honor to be invited back," Karon said in a news release. We have played in many great venues, such as the Thanksgiving Parade of Bands at Walt Disney World and at New York's Carnegie Hall. The parade and the gala provide unique opportunities for these musicians to perform at another level and to a global audience."
