Police: Burglar who stole S. Elgin team's equipment arrested
Downstate police have arrested a prolific car burglar who victimized a South Elgin wrestling coach and his team last year, authorities said.
According a St. Louis Post-Dispatch report, prosecutors on Nov. 28 charged James S. Holmes, 29, of St. Louis with aggravated fleeing and eluding a police officer, an offense relating to possession of a stolen license plate and nine counts of burglary.
The Belleville News Democrat reported that authorities believe Holmes may be responsible for more than 40 burglaries.
On Dec. 30, 2016, the wrestling coach and team from South Elgin had stopped for a meal at the Collinsville Applebee's. When they returned to their vehicle, they found a side door was open and seven bags of wrestling equipment were missing along with two cellphones and a tablet, the Post-Dispatch reported.
