Official: Burning 'outside material' catches Riverwoods house on fire

Nobody was injured when the exterior of a Riverwoods house caught fire Sunday afternoon, officials said.

The side of a house in the 600 block of Eagle Court was set ablaze about 12:50 p.m. by some "outside material" that was burning behind the residence, said Battalion Chief Ken Koerber of the Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District. The fire spread and burned through a couple of kitchen windows.

One person was home at the time and was able to escape safely, Koerber said. The house was deemed uninhabitable, he said, though a damage estimate was not immediately available.

The exact cause of the blaze is under investigation, he said.
