Tree, menorah lighting start Vernon Hills holiday season

Vernon Hills Mayor Roger Byrne kicked off the holiday season Saturday with the village's Holiday Tree and Menorah Lighting Ceremony.

Byrne flipped the switch at the Vernon Hills Golf Course as families enjoyed the annual event, which included hot chocolate, cookies and cider.

The Countryside Fire Protection District made sure Santa arrived on time to the event.
