Wheeling dispatch manager awarded communications of the year

The Illinois Association of Public Safety Communications Officials has named Wheeling Police Department's Communications Center Manager Rocella Rodgers as Communications Director of the Year.

The award was announced Tuesday, Nov. 7 during the association's annual training conference in Springfield.

Rodgers, who has worked for the Wheeling Police Department for one year, was honored by the village during a board meeting Monday.

Rodgers is credited with initiating a new "Text to 911" system now available to Wheeling and Des Plaines residents.

She also managed the center's migration to StarCom21, a radio system that improves call quality and allows Wheeling to easily communicate with other police and fire agencies.
