Rolling Meadows man pleads guilty to battery, gets 30 days in road rage fight

A Rolling Meadows man pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery after he was stabbed in an apparent road rage exchange with another driver this summer.

Daniel Amezcua, 25, was sentenced to 30 days in Cook County jail in exchange for his guilty plea, court records show.

Authorities said Amezcua and another man fought on I-290 July 7.

Amezcua pulled next to the driver in the southbound lane of the interstate, north of Biesterfield Road, and began yelling, police said, then stopped his vehicle in front of the other man's car, forcing him to stop.

According to police, Amezcua left his vehicle and approached the other driver, who remained in his car. He then punched the driver in the head, police said. They say the man responded by stabbing Amezcua in the chest, causing injuries that were not life-threatening.

The man drove away and Amezcua followed him to an Elk Grove Village gas station at the intersection of Devon Avenue and Arlington Heights Road, where the arrival of Elk Grove officers and Illinois State Police ended the conflict.
