Hoffman Estates Fire Chief Jeffrey Jorian will retire this month after 35 years with the village.

Jorian joined the Hoffman Estates Fire Department as a firefighter in September 1982 and moved steadily through the ranks over the years. He was sworn in as fire chief in September 2013.

Among Jorian's accomplishments under his various ranks was managing the department's transition to Northwest Central Dispatch, leading the Dive Rescue Team, serving as the department's first full-time training officer and coordinating the first multiagency training among Hoffman Estates, Streamwood, Schaumburg and Palatine.

"Chief Jorian has done a wonderful job for the village over the last 35 years, and he will be missed by residents and staff alike," Hoffman Estates Mayor Bill McLeod said. "He has provided solid leadership for our department throughout his long career."

Village Manager Jim Norris, who oversees all department heads, added his own praise of Jorian's service.

"The fire department is highly regarded among our residents, businesses and neighboring communities thanks to Chief Jorian's steadfast leadership and attention to community engagement," Norris said. "We wish him the best of luck in retirement."

Norris added that he has named Deputy Chief Patrick Fortunato to become acting chief when Jorian retires on Tuesday, Nov. 21.
