Arlington Heights studio owner receives Cultural Arts Award

Ellen Sharpe, owner of Monart Drawing Studio in Arlington Heights, has received this year's Cultural Arts Award from the village's arts commission in recognition of her 21 years of teaching art classes.

In honoring Sharpe with the award, commission members said Sharpe's studio at 628 S. Arthur Ave. has served as an important source of art instruction for families, both there and in pilot programs at local schools.

The studio offers classes in the Monart drawing method developed by Mona Brookes. Sharpe, the only licensed Monart instructor in Illinois, holds to the philosophy that there are no mistakes in art and everyone can learn to draw.
