Man charged with sexually abusing Palatine girl

A 21-year-old man charged with sexually abusing a Palatine girl he met on a social media site was ordered held on $75,000 bail Tuesday.

Juan Dimas-Cordero was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a class 2 felony that carries a maximum sentence of up to seven years in prison. Probation is also available.

Prosecutors say Dimas-Cordero met the 14-year-old girl on the social media site last July and communicated with her. They told each other their ages, said Cook County assistant State's Attorney Katherine Bird, and agreed to meet to engage in sexual activity.

Sometime between Aug. 1 and Sept. 8, Dimas-Cordero drove the girl to a parking lot behind a Buffalo Grove clothing store where they engaged in sexual activity, Bird said.

On Sept. 8, the girl left her home without telling anyone, Bird said. Dimas-Cordero drove the girl to a parking lot behind a fast-food restaurant where they again engaged in sexual activity, Bird said.

The girl's mother noticed she was missing and called Palatine police, Bird said. In the meantime, the girl returned home and told police what had happened, Bird said.

Dimas-Cordero next appears in court Nov. 30.
