Armed robbery attempt at Lake Bluff shopping center

The Lake Bluff Police Department is looking for a man who tried to rob a woman at knife point Saturday morning, according to reports.

Officers responded to the Carriage Way Shopping Plaza at 201-235 S. Waukegan Road at 11:17 a.m. Saturday to investigate an attempted armed robbery, the department posted on its Facebook page.

A 33-year-old woman told police a man approached her from behind and tried to grab her purse while she was walking from the shopping plaza to her car. Officials said she pulled away, and the suspect produced a knife and demanded the purse. The woman told police she was able to run away without physical injury.

Police said the suspect can be seen in surveillance footage of the incident. He is described as approximately 5-foot-8-inches tall, medium to heavy build, and was wearing a dark-colored hoodie and dark pants.

The suspect was last seen running northbound from the Carriage Way Shopping Plaza, possibly on Thorn Tree Lane toward West Washington Avenue, according to police.

Lake Bluff and Lake Forest Police, along with a police dog from the Lake County Sheriff's Department, searched the area but were unable to find the suspect, police said.

If anyone has any information about the incident, they are asked to call the Lake Bluff Police Department at 847-234-2151.
