Woodridge woman struck, killed by vehicle on Route 53

A 45-year-old Woodridge woman was struck and killed by a vehicle on Halloween night, authorities said Wednesday.

Cindy Higgins died from multiple blunt force injuries, the DuPage County coroner's office said, after she was hit at 7:49 p.m. Tuesday at Route 53 and High Trail Drive in Woodridge.

Higgins was found "seriously injured" on the north side of the intersection when officers arrived, Woodridge public information officer Jim Hoff said in a news release.

The scene was across from the Seven Bridges commercial area, where the wide, north-south artery of Route 53 meets a hilly, winding residential street.

Hoff said the driver who hit Higgins pulled over and assisted police with their response. An ambulance from the Lisle-Woodridge Fire Protection District took her to Edward Hospital in Naperville, where she died from her injuries.

Police called in the Major Crash Reconstruction Team from the DuPage County Felony Investigative Assistance Team because of the severity of the crash, Hoff said. The probe continues and no charges or citations have been issued.
