The Warrenville man accused of triggering a fiery crash that killed an Elgin woman late last month in Wheaton did not appear for his arraignment Monday in DuPage County court.

His attorney, Brad Telander, said Brian Thunderkick, 62, was hospitalized at the county health department. A court document on health department letterhead said Thunderkick is being treated for "mental health issues and crisis stabilization."

Telander said Thunderkick is expected to be released from the health department Wednesday and that his arraignment has been moved to Nov. 6.

Thunderkick, of the 2S600 block of Pierre Curie Lane, has been indicted on charges of reckless homicide, attempted leaving the scene of an accident involving death and aggravated battery stemming from a Sept. 30 crash when authorities said he was driving 135 mph down Butterfield Road and struck another car from behind.

The driver of the second car, Erika Villagomez of Elgin, was trapped in her vehicle as it burst into flames and she died before she could be rescued.

As of Monday, prosecutors were still awaiting the return of the results of a DUI kit before determining whether to seek additional charges, including aggravated DUI.
