Driver cited in crash near Hoffman Estates

Citations have been issued in a crash on Route 59 that resulted in one of the drivers being taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The crash occurred in an unincorporated area near Hoffman Estates at approximately 3 p.m. Friday when a Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound on Route 59 veered into the southbound lane and struck a Volkswagen Passat near Shoe Factory Road, according to the Cook County sheriff's office.

The driver of the Malibu, 21-year-old Jalen Davis, of Addison, was charged with driving without a license, a class B misdemeanor. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and not having valid registration.

The driver of the other car remains hospitalized, but it appears he will recover from his injuries.

Davis was also taken to an area hospital for treatment for injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening.
