New 5K in Arlington Heights aims to fight lung cancer

An inaugural race and run/walk will be held in downtown Arlington Heights next month to raise awareness around lung cancer.

The Pairing Up to Beat Lung Cancer 5K Race and 1-Mile Run/Walk is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 4, on a looped course throughout the village. The 5K begins at 8:30 a.m. at Runners High 'n Tri, 121 W. Campbell St., followed by the run/walk at 8:35 a.m. Mayor Tom Hayes will help kick off the race, and music will be provided by DJ Gary Templin.

The event aims to honor survivors and those lost to lung cancer, while raising donations to help patients with the financial burdens of fighting the disease. Proceeds go to the Northwest Community Healthcare Foundation to provide assistance for people diagnosed with lung cancer.

To register, visit beatlungcancer5k.com. Cost is $30-$40.
