Nine injured when vehicle crashes into Waukegan restaurant
Nine people were injured, three critically, when a vehicle crashed into a Waukegan restaurant Saturday afternoon, police said.
Authorities responded about 12:30 p.m. to the 1400 block of Washington Street, where a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Waukegan resident Constella Turner, had backed into the front of Toluca's Restaurant. Police did not give an age for Turner, but described her as "elderly."
Turner and her passenger, a young child to whom she is related, were taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, according to a news release from Waukegan police.
Seven people inside the restaurant were also taken to hospitals, including two adults and a young child who suffered critical injuries, officials said. The other two adults and two children had noncritical injuries, police said.
Turner was issued citations for improper backing and reckless driving, police said. She will appear in court Nov. 27.
