Police: Man stole jewelry, hit employee during Crystal Lake robbery

Crystal Lake police are looking for a suspect they say stole two trays of diamond jewelry and struck an employee as he fled a store Saturday.

The suspect had left by the time police arrived at Dalzell Jewelers, 41 N. Williams St., after a robbery and battery had been reported there, according to a news release from the Crystal Lake Police Department Saturday evening.

The suspect entered the store about 3:05 p.m. and asked to see specific items, police said. While an employee was showing him the merchandise, the suspect took two trays of diamond jewelry and struck an employee as he took off, according to the release.

The man did not display or suggest he had a weapon, officials said. the total of the stolen merchandise was not immediately available.

The suspect is described as a black man, about 20 years old, 6-feet-1-inch tall with a medium build, and was last seen wearing gray sweatpants, white athletic shoes, and a black T-shirt with white lettering witnesses believe said "hoops," according to the release.

The suspect fled in a silver Pontiac four-door car driven by another black male, police said. The car was last seen driving north through an alley toward Woodstock Street.
