Palatine home badly damaged in fire Sunday

A fire Sunday evening in Palatine significantly damaged a home, but no one was hurt in the blaze.

Palatine firefighters responded to a report of the fire in the 600 block of East Princeton Street shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday.

Firefighters discovered flames in the basement and exterior of the home, officials said. Within about 10 minutes, they had largely extinguished the fire, officials said.

All occupants of the home were evacuated before firefighters arrived.

Though the fire was largely contained to the basement, it caused significant damage to the home's electrical system, which left the residence uninhabitable, officials said.

The fire department has determined the fire was an accident, but the cause is still under investigation.
