Aurora cops holding Cicero woman in crash that injured 6-year-old

Aurora police say they're continuing to hold a 31-year-old Cicero woman pending felony charges through the DuPage County state's attorney's office in connection with a traffic crash that seriously injured the woman's 6-year-old son.

Police said the woman apparently lost control of her 2007 Nissan Xterra around 2:40 a.m. Sunday near Diehl Road and I-88 and the SUV plunged into a pond and sank on the south side of the intersection.

The woman, her 21-year-old sister and her 15- and 12-year-old daughters all were able to escape, police said. The boy was not.

Two Aurora Fire Department water rescue team divers found the SUV and boy in about 15 feet of water roughly 80 feet from shore. Authorities say they believe the boy was in the water for at least 30 minutes.

He was taken to an Aurora hospital in critical condition and later moved to a Chicago hospital where he continued to undergo treatment on Monday. The other occupants of the vehicle were taken to an Aurora hospital to be checked out.

Police say the driver and others were at a party in Aurora and were returning home when she exited I-88, turned left on Diehl and lost control of her vehicle.

Alcohol is suspected as a main factor in the crash, police said, and Aurora traffic investigators are continuing their probe.
