Violinist William Hagen to play Sunday at Barrington's White House

Violinist William Hagen will play an extraordinary 1735 violin during his 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, performance at Barrington's White House.

Hagen will play a Giuseppe Guarneri del Gesu 1735 "Sennhauser" on loan from the Stradivari Society of Chicago, co-founded by Barrington philanthropist Mary B. Galvin in 1985 to help the careers of aspiring young musicians.

Hagen took third prize in the prestigious 2015 Queen Elisabeth Competition, making him the highest ranked American since 1985.

"(The Sennhauser) is an amazing instrument," the Utah native said from his home in Kronberg, Germany last week. "It's really great to be able to come and play Mrs. Galvin's violin for her." Galvin was married for 67 years to former Motorola CEO Robert W. Galvin, who died in 2011.

Tickets for the event are $40 for premiere seating and a post-event reception, $30 for adults and $10 for students. Information is at www.BarringtonsWhiteHouse.com.

Selections Sunday include: Beethoven: Sonata No. 9 in A major, Op. 47, "Kreutzer"; Bach: Partita No. 2 in D Minor, BWV 1004; Kreisler: Berceuse Romantique and La Gitana; Kreisler/Chaminade: Serenade Espagnole; Ravel: Tzigane.
