Aurora man charged with armed robbery after man beaten with shotgun
One person was arrested, one was injured and another is being sought after a man was robbed this week in Aurora after setting up a deal to illegally buy sedatives.
Carlos Donatlan, 19, of the 800 block of Taylor Street, Aurora, has been charged with felony armed robbery with a firearm stemming from an episode early Tuesday, according to police and Kane County court records.
Police said a 42-year-old Montgomery man arranged to meet with Donatlan to illegally purchase Ativan, a sedative that is classified as a controlled substance.
The two met at a park on the 800 block of Taylor at about 1:40 a.m. and made small talk, police said.
A man with a shotgun came from behind the Montgomery man, demanded his valuables and began beating him with the shotgun, police said.
Donatlan and his accomplice ran off with an undisclosed amount of cash and the victim drove himself to an area hospital, where he was treated for lacerations to his head and face, police said.
Donatlan was arrested at his home at about 2:30 a.m. without incident.
Donatlan was being held at the Kane County jail on $300,000 bail. He is next due in court Oct. 19 and faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted.
Donatlan's accomplice is described as a possible white male with black hair, 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 160 pounds. Anyone with information about the suspect should call Aurora police at (630) 256-5500, Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000, or via the "My PD" app available to smartphones.
