Man gets 14 years for attempted murder in Aurora

A 22-year-old man was sentenced to 14 years in prison for attempted murder in a June 2016 shooting in Aurora.

Aaron Tolamac, of the 600 block of South River Street, Aurora, is the second of two men charged in the attack to be sent to prison for the shooting on the 200 block of North Fourth Street.

Police said Tolamac and Jesus Ferrel approached an 18-year-old man they knew and that Tolamac began firing a handgun.

All the shots missed, and the two ran to a nearby car and sped off, police said. Police learned Tolamac and Ferrel were involved in the shooting, spotted the car and followed it to the 1600 block of Liberty Street.

Tolamac took off running from the car, which continued to the 2000 block of East New York Street, where Ferrel and an 18-year-old female driver were detained.

Tolamac was found on the 300 block of Oakview Avenue and arrested.

Tolamac also pleaded guilty to aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon as part of the plea, which was accepted by Kane County Judge D.J. Tegeler last week, records show.

The female driver was released without charges; police said the shooting was part of an ongoing dispute between Tolamac, Ferrel and the 18-year-old.

Ferrel, 19, of the 1600 block of Marikay Avenue, Aurora, is serving a six-year sentence after pleading guilty to attempted murder in May 2017.
