Man wanted in Plainfield carjacking captured in LaSalle County

A fugitive who evaded police during a six-hour search and is accused of stealing a car at gunpoint Wednesday has been captured, authorities said.

Lowell "Max" Ambler, 46, arrested in Earlville in LaSalle County, Plainfield police said on their Facebook page.

Ambler caught the attention of Plainfield police Tuesday when Illinois State Police notified officers that he was a fugitive wanted on warrants and possibly headed to the northwest side of town in a stolen semitrailer, police said in a news release.

Police found the semitrailer Tuesday, but Ambler wasn't inside.

A man reported Wednesday that his SUV was stolen about 8:20 a.m. by someone with a handgun who resembled Ambler, police said. That car was recovered Wednesday in LaSalle County.

Ambler was wanted on warrants from Lee and LaSalle counties related to violation of bail bond and violation of an order of protection, Plainfield police said.
