Fox Lake principal gets into character for 'Frozen' performance

Students laughed and watched in astonishment Monday as Stanton Middle School Principal Jeff Sefcik sang "Let It Go" from the Disney movie "Frozen" while dressed as the character Elsa.

Sefcik was making good on a promise he made to students from Fox Lake Elementary School District 114 if they raised more than $25,000 during the third annual Day of Service held last Friday. Students surpassed the goal, collecting about $30,000 in all.

"I don't often wear a dress," Sefcik said while adjusting his dress over his hairy back before the performance. "Probably twice in my life, both for Stanton school fundraisers. As long as the kids have a good time with it, I'm OK with it.

"I didn't spend the last couple of weeks rehearsing, so this weekend I listened to the song probably about a hundred times. But I'm no princess," he added.

As the crowd cheered, Sefcik came on stage dancing and singing while three students threw artificial snow around him.

"It was very funny. I'm glad I got to participate in throwing the snow," said seventh-grader Cameron Lattimore, who raised the most money of any student. "He wasn't shy and he was loud, and his dancing wasn't much, just walking around."

Almost 900 students and 200 adults worked on projects as part of last week's Day of Service, with Stanton Middle School students working on 15 projects around Fox Lake.

Students cleaned up the Community Garden, planted flower bulbs, painted garbage cans, served at Feed My Starving Children and made blankets for Project Linus and superhero capes for sick children.
