Horses on display Saturday at Barrington Hills polo competition

All the color and pageantry of polo were on display Saturday afternoon Barrington Hills as the LeCompte/Kalaway Trailowners Cup made its 13th annual appearance in the village.

The LeCompte/Kalaway event at the Barrington Hills Polo Club is considered the biggest events of its kind in the Chicago area. Besides the fast and furious game itself, with its magnificent horses and riders, there were attractions including the Running of the Hounds, the color guard and the over-the-top women's hats.

"Polo today, it's about people and a community coming together," said Gretchen Von Hess of Barrington Hills, sporting a handmade hat. "Those horses are like driving a Mercedes. Any little movement and they are right there with you."
