The Aptakisic Junior High Scholastic Bowl program has added another trophy to its mantel.

The team won a championship at the national quiz bowl in May. Now, coach and Aptakisic school librarian Barry Love has been named the 2017 National Middle School Coach of the Year by the National History Bee and Bowl. Fellow coaches and members of the quiz bowl community voted on the award.

Love credited his mentor -- former coach Wendy Frost -- and assistant coach Luanne Faulkner for helping the team excel. He also thanked parents for supporting the students.

"The most valuable experience for our students this year was belonging to a group dedicated to achieving victory through their own hard work," Love said in a news release.
