Receding river allows for Bob Leonard 5K/10K River Run

The annual Bob Leonard 5K/10K River Run along the Fox River in St. Charles went on as planned after high water in the Fox River receded to the point the park and trail were usable for the race.

The race drew 115 participants for the Bob Leonard 5K/10K River Run and around 100 for the Colonial Cafe Family 1K Color Run.

The winner of the 5k was Dan Palmer of Rosco with a time of 18:41. "It was very hilly and challenging," he said.

Carrie Birth-Davis of Scottsdale, Arizona, was the first woman to cross the finish line with a time shy of 20 minutes. Birth-Davis is originally from St. Charles and participated in the race while in town visiting family.

Jennifer Leonard-Comperda, daughter the race's namesake said the event raised about $30,000 this year between runners, sponsors and donations. The money raised will go to the St. Charles Kiwanis Club and the River Corridor Foundation.

Geneva resident Mary Agness-Zellner of Chicago Race Management and a Kiwanian said the money raised "is for generations to come and not just today."
