National Night Out brings Lake County police and residents together

National Night Out is an annual event held around the country intended to promotes partnership between the police and the communities they protect. For more information, visit natw.org.

The 34th annual National Night Out will be on Tuesday, Aug. 1. Here are some of the activities villages and police departments in and around Lake County have planned:

Friday, July 28

Lake Zurich: 5:30-8:30 p.m. Lake Zurich Police Department, 200 Mohawk Trail, Lake Zurich. At the Blue and You event, interact with local law enforcement agencies, learn about police technology and equipment, see police vehicles up close, participate in police activities and demonstrations. Lincolnshire: 6-9 p.m. The Fresh Market, 475 Milwaukee Ave., Lincolnshire. The Lincolnshire Police Department and The Fresh Market will present the Cruisin' With Cops car show as a kickoff to National Night Off. The event includes unique, classic race cars; raffles; food and drinks; and entertainment. Free. Waukegan: 5-8 p.m. Municipal Beach, 201 Seahorse Drive, Waukegan. The Waukegan Police Department and Waukegan Park District will host a National Night Out Touch a Truck event. This family fun event includes police dog demonstrations, bounce house, face painting, games, and over 20 pieces of heavy machinery and emergency response vehicles to explore. After the event, stick around for a movie in the park, "Moana," rated "G." Visit www.waukeganil.gov.

Tuesday, Aug. 1

Antioch: 7-10 p.m. Residents throughout the village of Antioch are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. Many neighborhoods will be hosting a variety of events such as block parties, cookouts, visits from police, and educational crime prevention gifts for the children. Buffalo Grove: 5-8 p.m. Willow Stream Park, 651 Old Checker Road, Buffalo Grove. Includes a business expo, picnic in the park, inflatable attractions and face painting, Buffalo Grove Fire and Police Department displays; free hot dogs, chips and drinks while supplies last; free giveaways; and live music with The Lisa Rene Band from 6-8 p.m. Bring a nonperishable food item to the Buffalo Grove Police Challenge trailer for local food pantries. Island Lake: 6-8 p.m. Veterans Park, 316 Island Drive, Island Lake. Meet the police and fire departments, take part in crafts and games, and get ID cards. Visit villageofislandlake.com.

Mundelein: 7-10:30 p.m. Santa Maria del Popolo parking lot, 116 N. Lake St. Mundelein. Enjoy tie-dye T-shirts and socks, Mundelein Fire Department engine rides, activities with Super Target Mundelein, a dunk tank and more. Hot dogs and other snacks will be available for purchase. Bring blankets and lawn chairs for a presentation of "The Lego Batman Movie" outdoors on a 45-foot screen at dusk. The Mundelein Police Department will serve free popcorn and treats during the movie. Round Lake: 5-8 p.m. Round Lake Police Department, 741 W. Town Line Road, Round Lake. Free event includes a bounce house, hay rides, bicycle raffle, police cars and fire engine on display, car show and motorcycle cruise-in, representatives of Save-A-Pet and the Round Lake Library, free hot dogs and chips and more. Round Lake Beach: 5-8 p.m. Lake Front Park, 1001 N. Lake Shore Drive, Round Lake Beach. Members of the police department will interact with the public, with live music, free hot dogs, a car show, a helicopter landing, face painting, a dunk tank and more. Vernon Hills: 4-8 p.m. Hartmann Park on Oakwood Road, Vernon Hills. Planned events include food, games, inflatables from, free face painting, a disc jockey from A-Z Entertainment, a bookmobile from the Cook Memorial Library and visits from the Vernon Hills Queens and representatives from the Boy Scouts. The Countryside Fire Protection District will be on hand with a water spray to help everyone keep cool, and two teams from the police department will take on teams from local organizations in volleyball matches. Wauconda: 5:30-8:30 p.m. Cook Park, 600 N. Main St., Wauconda. Tour a police vehicle, watch a police dog demonstration, take part in simulations and more. Visit waucondaparks.org.

Wildwood: 7:30-8:30 p.m. Rule Park, 33325 N. Sears Blvd., Wildwood. Residents are asked to meet at 6:45 p.m. at the Sunset Park Pavilion, Willow Point Park Pavilion, Pebble Beach Park entrance, or Old Plank Park to walk to Rule Park for free hot dogs and lemonade. Thursday, Aug. 3

Barrington: 6:30-8:30 p.m. Harris Bank Parking Lot at Cook and Station streets, Barrington. Held during Barrington Cruise Night. There will be a forensic science interactive display and pre­sentations on train safety and drug awareness, a chance to see (and climb into police) and fire vehicles, presentations by the Chicago Honor Guard Unit and the Chi­cago Mounted Patrol Unit, and an extrication demonstration by the Barrington Fire Department. Attendees can receive a bike and helmet safety check and digital fin­gerprinting and ID kits, as well as free hot dogs and hamburgers. Family activities include a bingo and hula hoop contest, trackless train rides, face painting and a watermelon eating contest. Visit www.barrington-il.gov.

Saturday, Aug. 5

Lincolnshire: 5-8 p.m. North Park, 1025 Riverwoods Road, Lincolnshire. Event includes music; giveaways; inflatable waterslides and Hungry Hippos game; a Flight for Life helicopter; puppies from Wagging Hearts available for adoption; bingo; food trucks; carnival games; and presentations from the Lincolnshire Police Department including a hands on evidence collection demonstration, police dog demonstrations, emergency vehicle exhibits and a chance to meet local officers.
