Police: Shots didn't target Islamic Community Center of Des Plaines

Authorities released few details Tuesday about shots fired last weekend near the Islamic Community Center of Des Plaines, other than to say the mosque was not a target.

The shooting occurred at the intersection of Potter Road and Suffield Street about 10 p.m. Sunday, Cook County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Sophia Ansari said. No one reported injuries and no one is in custody, Ansari said.

"Our preliminary investigation shows the shooting wasn't directed at the mosque," Ansari said.

In Virginia, a teenage girl's body was found Sunday in a pond after she was attacked outside her mosque. Another attack occurred Monday when a driver plowed into pedestrians outside a London mosque. Both incidents occurred during Ramadan, a time of fasting and prayer for Muslims.
