Carol Stream park board seeking applicants for vacant seat

The Carol Stream Park District board will choose a new member to succeed a two-term commissioner who didn't seek re-election this spring.

The park district is seeking candidates to fill the seat held by Wynn Ullman since 2009.

Commissioners wanted to come up with a procedure to accept applications before announcing the search Monday, more than a month after Ullman attended his last board meeting, Executive Director Jim Reuter said.

Two other incumbents - Brian Sokolowski and Brenda Gramann - were the only candidates for three available board seats in April.

Because no one ran for Ullman's spot, the board must appoint a district resident to the two-year post. Applicants must complete a two-page form and provide three references by July 18.

The forms are available on the district's website, csparks.org, or at the front desk of the Simkus Recreation Center at 849 West Lies Road.

Applicants also must be registered voters in the district. Anyone who has been convicted of a felony or who is in arrears on tax payments to the park district is ineligible.

The board will review the materials and hold face-to-face interviews of the most highly-qualified candidates in closed-door meetings.

The candidate who secures the appointment will serve until the election in April 2019.

At a board meeting last month, Commissioner Jackie Jeffery recognized Ullman, who was departing to "pursue other interests," officials said at the time.
