Wauconda deputy fire chief retiring June 9

Wauconda Fire District Deputy Chief Scott Gaschler will retire June 9, officials announced.

Gaschler has served the fire district for 34 years, starting as a paid-on-call firefighter in 1983. He was hired as a full-time firefighter and paramedic in 1986 and has been promoted several times through the years, eventually being named deputy chief in 2015.

In 2005, Gaschler was a member of a response team that provided aid following Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

A traditional walkout ceremony is planned for 4 p.m. June 9, at fire station No. 1, 109 W. Liberty St. It will be open to the public.
