Aurora man seeks Dem nod for 50th state House seat

A firefighter from Aurora wants to be the Democratic candidate for the state House 50th District seat in 2018.

James Leslie, a married father of three, is running for the nomination, according to his website and a campaign Facebook page.

According to his website, Leslie has worked for 15 years as a firefighter. He works for the Naperville Fire Department.

According to state records, his campaign committee, Friends of James G. Leslie, organized in February. During the first quarter of the year, it received $500 from Leslie, $250 from co-worker Philip Giannattasio of Aurora, and a $3,500 in-kind contribution of website management from M6Digital of Carbondale.

The current representative is Republican Keith Wheeler of Oswego, who is in his second term. He ran twice against Democrat Valerie Burd, the former mayor of Yorkville.

The 50th District includes all or parts of Campton Hills, Elburn, Sugar Grove, Montgomery, Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, Bristol, Oswego, Yorkville and North Aurora.

Wheeler and Leslie could not be reached for comment early Thursday afternoon.

The primary is March 20.
