Da Coach wants in: Ditka taking stake in Lingerie Football League
Most fans might not make a connection between NFL Hall of Famer Mike Ditka and lingerie, but that's what the Chicago Bliss wants in anticipation of the team's first game Friday at the Sears Centre.
The team is scheduled to make a "major" announcement regarding "ownership partnerships" with the likes of the legendary Bears coach before Friday night's Lingerie Football League debut at the Hoffman Estates arena.
A league news release said Iron Mike will take an equity stake in the league, but further details will come during a news conference at which Ditka is scheduled to appear before the Bliss take on the Miami Caliente. Kickoff is at 9 p.m. Friday.
Lingerie Football features two sides of seven women on the field in tackle football. Players wear uniforms similar to bikinis, with shoulder pads over their tops and a hockey-style helmet with a clear visor protecting their faces.
The Bliss are scheduled to play two home games this year at the Sears Centre, though the Dec. 18 contest could be moved, as ownership issues with the Hoffman Estates venue could temporally shutter the building.
While tickets remain available at the Sears Centre and Ticketmaster, the games will be streamed over the Internet, with play-by-play provided by former Bulls' television broadcaster Tom Dore and former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst Sean Salisbury handling color commentary. Maxim Hot 100 model April Rose will assume sideline reporting duties.
Those wanting to watch on their computers can buy single games for $7.95 or season passes for $125. Check lflus.com for details.
