'Dads' photo contest deadline is Monday

The deadline is Monday, April 27 to submit photographs to the Northwest Cultural Council's 2009 fifth annual international juried photography exhibition, "Pop Shots - Images Celebrating Dads." All forms of photography and digital imagery will be accepted. There is a $25 jury fee for up to three slides. High school and college students are free. 'Rock with the Cops' June 5 in Arlington

The Arlington Heights Police Department is ready to put on its dancing shoes for "Rockin' with The Cops," with Arlington Heights fifth grade graduates, 7-10 p.m. Friday, June 5, at Pioneer Park, 500 S. Fernandez Ave. This community event celebrates fifth grade graduation while getting to know local police officers and enjoying a fun night of games, swimming, music, food and prizes.

The first 250 students to get their completed application forms turned into the Arlington Heights Police Department's front desk by Monday, May 11, will be able to participate.

A maximum of four applications may be submitted by each applicant. Applications can be downloaded from vah.com.

Des Plaines Lions look for members

The Des Plaines Lions Club, chartered 85 years ago, is seeking new members. The club, which supports efforts to eliminate blindness and to aid the hearing-impaired, meets at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays from September to May at the Des Plaines Elks Club.
