Man charged in rape at Carpentersville party
A Round Lake Beach man was arrested Tuesday on charges he sexually assaulted an unconscious 17-year-old at a recent party in Carpentersville.
Carlos Gomez, 22, of the 400 block of Meadow Green Lane, is charged with one count of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
Carpentersville police said Gomez made sexual advances toward the woman at a Dec. 20 party on the 0-100 block of Birch Street. After refusing, the teen fell asleep and later awoke to find Gomez assaulting her, Comdr. Tim Bosshart said.
The woman contacted police the next afternoon and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. A warrant was issued Monday and Round Lake Beach police arrested Gomez and turned him over to Carpentersville about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Bail information was not immediately available.
