Will golf carts help residents save on gasoline?

Former Wheeling village president Bill Hein is concerned about economic conditions.

Instead of sitting back, however, he has been providing the village board with ideas on how to help residents who are struggling with their finances or are dealing with home foreclosures.

Hein, on Monday, gave the board information on other towns in the country that allow golf carts on public paths. He said that will save residents money on gasoline. He asked the board to take a look at the information and hold a workshop on the issue in the future.

Festival tunes: Wheeling debuted information on its annual Freedom Fest musical lineup.

The big names this year will be Verve Pipe, performing from 9:30 to 11 p.m. July 3, and the Gin Blossoms, performing from 9:30 to 11 p.m. July 5.

The three-day festival will move to a new location this year while the new village hall is under construction. It'll be south of St. Joseph the Worker Church on park district property. The festival hours are being extended to midnight each night.
