Wheaton Municipal Band hosts free concert Thursday

The Wheaton Municipal Band welcomes Dr. Stephen Peterson, former director of bands at the University of Illinois, to the podium for a free concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at Memorial Park, 225 Karlskoga Ave. in downtown Wheaton.

The music will include "An Outdoor Overture" by Aaron Copland and "American Hymn Suite" by Dwyane Milburn. Also on the program is Clare Grudman's "Fantasy on American Sailing Songs" and a lesser known work, "Sound and Smoke" by Vietnamese composer Viet Cuong. In addition, the band plays Sousa's "University of Illinois March" and Gershwin's medley from "Porgy and Bess."
