Attention Frida fans: New immersive digital exhibit showcasing Kahlo coming to Chicago

Art lovers eager for more Frida Kahlo, you're in luck.

The 20th-century Mexican painter, whose recent three-month retrospective at the College of DuPage's Cleve Carney Art Museum attracted 100,000 visitors, will be the subject of an upcoming immersive exhibition in Chicago.

"Frida: Immersive Dream" runs Feb. 24 through May 28 at Lighthouse Artspace at the Germania Club, 108 W. Germania Place, Chicago.

Lighthouse Immersive, the company that introduced the digital art exhibition "Immersive Van Gogh" to Chicago in February, produces the Kahlo exhibition. It will include images of such works as "The Two Fridas," "The Wounded Deer" and "Diego and I," Kahlo's 1949 painting which recently sold at auction for $34.9 million. The exhibition also includes digital images of drawings, photographs of Kahlo at various ages and photographs of individuals who influenced her worldview.

"The success of 'Immersive Van Gogh' has demonstrated that audiences are excited to experience art in a new way. Our Italian creative team are experts at digitally exploring masterworks in such a way that viewers are not merely passive observers. They obtain an even richer understanding of the artist by seeing the work as its creator might have," said Lighthouse producer Corey Ross in a prepared statement.

Known for her many self-portraits, Kahlo was inspired by Mexican folk art and incorporated surrealism into her work, which often reflected her internal struggles including a lifelong battle with chronic pain.

Timed, dated tickets start at $39.99. They are on sale at immersive-frida.com.
