Live, in-person theater returns to Maine South with 'Charlotte's Web'

Next week, Maine South High School will stage its first in-person theatrical performance since the COVID-19 pandemic spread to Illinois.

Students at the Park Ridge school will put on an adaptation of the classic children's novel "Charlotte's Web."

Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Oct. 14 and Oct. 16, and 2 p.m. Oct. 17 at the school, 1111 S. Dee Road.

Author E.B. White's beloved tale is about a pig named Wilbur and a spider named Charlotte. Tony Award-nominated playwright Joseph Robinette adapted the story for the stage.

Twenty-eight Maine South students comprise the show's cast. More than 50 students comprise the technical crew.

Tickets are $7 and will be available at the door.

Masks are required. Socially distanced seating between families is encouraged.

The last in-person play with a live audience at Maine South was staged in February 2020, Maine Township High School District 207 spokesman Brett Clark said. It was "Rose and the Rime."
