Schaumburg trustee recognized for 30 years of dedicated service

• Congratulations to village of Schaumburg Trustee George Dunham, who was recognized at the June 22 village board meeting for his 30 years of dedicated service to the board.

Dunham accepted the recognition, which included an award plaque, from Mayor Tom Dailly, who extended his congratulations and gratitude for Dunham's continued service to the community.

"This village has meant a lot to me, and the longer I serve, the more it means," said Dunham.

Dunham is chairman of the Finance, Legal, Administration, General Government Committee, a member of the Public Safety Committee, and a member of the Planning, Building and Development Committee. As senior trustee, he also hosts the quarterly Coffee with the Council meetings.

The Scholarship Assistance Fund, originally formed as Prospect Heights Dollars for Scholars, has named its 2021-22 scholarship recipients.

The Scholarship Assistance Fund (Dollars for Scholars) was established in 1998 and serves students living in Arlington Heights, Buffalo Grove, Mount Prospect, Wheeling and Prospect Heights.

Congratulations to the 2021-22 scholarship recipients: Victoria Lypka, Wheeling (Wheeling High School); Jessica Stavros, Prospect Heights (Wheeling High School); Emily Butryn, Arlington Heights (John Hersey High School); Viktorio Tzarevski, Prospect Heights (Wheeling High School); Madison Baysingar, Mount Prospect (Prospect High School); Audrey Bixby, Buffalo Grove (Rolling Meadows High School); Kevin Cantieri, Mount Prospect (Prospect High School); Ninely Gaeta, Mount Prospect (John Hersey High School); Claudia Groeling, Mount Prospect (John Hersey High School); Shiya Kamra, Arlington Heights (Rolling Meadows High School); Hannah Kersemeier, Arlington Heights (John Hersey High School); Wiktoria Schab, Prospect Heights (Wheeling High School); and Amanda Talalaj, Prospect Heights (Wheeling High School).

Scholarship Assistance Fund (Dollars for Scholars) supports current high school seniors, college undergraduates and vocational students in realizing their educational dreams.

Since established, it has awarded 160 scholarships totaling $415,000. Through responsible financial management, 100% of all donations received are used to fund scholarships.

The Waukegan Park District announced the recipients of its $1,000 Waukegan Park District Memorial Endowment Scholarships.

The scholarship recipients, who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievements and community service, are: Kathy Colin, University of Richmond, Richmond, Virginia; Erica Espinoza, Connecticut College, New London, Connecticut; Briana Lopez, College of Lake County, Grayslake; Nancy Miranda, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; Alexis Valdovinos, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio.

Scholarship recipients went through a rigorous application process and are required to be a resident of the Waukegan Park District; a student enrolled at a college, university, or trade school; and must be pursuing a field related to parks and recreation.
