Going beefless

Buona, known for its Italian beef sandwiches, recently introduced the new plant-based Italian beefless sandwich, which is available for $7.99 for a limited time. Buona partnered with Chicago-based seitan maker Upton's Naturals to create the new sandwich using seiten meat. To make sure the sandwich is vegan-friendly, Buona is also using veggie-based gravy and giardiniera and preparing the sandwiches separately so there's no cross contamination.

Buona has locations in Algonquin, Bolingbrook, Darien, Glen Ellyn, Glendale Heights, Hoffman Estates, Itasca, Mount Prospect, Naperville, Rosemont, St. Charles and more; buona.com/.
