Dive in for first-of-its-kind egg hunt in Des Plaines

Grab your swimsuit and a waterproof basket or bag, kids: the Des Plaines Park District is hosting a floating Easter egg hunt Saturday, April 3.

Set for the pools at the Prairie Lakes Aquatic Center, 515 E. Thacker St., the event is the first of its kind for the district.

"There will be hundreds of plastic eggs in the pools, ready for you to find and collect," Aquatic Manager Matt Hartnett said.

It's open to kids ages 1 to 10. Participants will be broken into age groups to ensure everyone has a fair chance to collect eggs and have fun.

Kids ages 1 to 3 will start at 1 p.m. in the splash pad. Another group of kids that age will start at 3 p.m. in the same location.

Kids ages 4 to 6 will start at 1:15 or 3:15 p.m. in the wellness pool.

Kids ages 7 to 10 will start at 1:30 or 3:30 p.m. in the lap pool.

A maximum of 25 kids will be allowed per time slot. Admission is $5 for district residents or $10 for anyone else. Advanced registration is required at bit.ly/DPFloateggs, or by visiting the center or the district administrative center.

"We have plenty of seating area to accommodate (socially distanced) spectators," Hartnett said. "We also ask that all adults and kids wear masks (or) face coverings while in the facility and on the pool deck."

Participants should bring their own baskets for collecting eggs. Kids can stay and swim until their assigned time slot ends.
