Arlington Heights firefighters host coat, toy drive

Arlington Heights' four fire stations are drop-off sites for an annual coat and toy drive that runs through Dec. 15.

Firefighters are collecting new and gently used coats to benefit families in Arlington Heights Elementary District 25 and the Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization, while toys will go to Chicagoland Toys For Tots.

Organizers say a warm winter coat is considered a budget "extra" for those less fortunate, and it's what spurred them to start the donation event nine years ago. Since then, they've collected nearly 3,000 coats and countless toys.

Donations are being accepted at Station 1, 300 E. Sigwalt St.; Station 2, 1150 N. Arlington Heights Road; Station 3, 2000 S. Arlington Heights Road; and Station 4, 3030 N. Arlington Heights Road.
